About Santa Cruz da Graciosa
Santa Cruz da Graciosa is the main town of Graciosa island, known as the "White Island" for its whitewashed houses and grain fields. The whole island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and its signature site is the Furna do Enxofre — a huge volcanic cavern with an underground lake and sulphur fumes. The landscape is dotted with red-domed windmills, Biscoitos vineyards and basalt coves. It is the least visited island in the Azores and, for that reason, one of the most authentic.
