About Santiago do Cacém
Santiago do Cacém is a historic town in the Alentejo Litoral, crowned by a well-preserved medieval castle with views over rolling green countryside. Just outside town lie the Roman ruins of Miróbriga, one of the best-preserved Roman sites in Portugal, with baths, a hippodrome and a forum. The municipality extends to the Vicentine Coast, with wild Atlantic beaches and the Santo André Lagoon — an important wetland for birdwatching. The town's charming centre, traditional markets and proximity to the coast make it a perfect base for exploring the Alentejo.
