Grândola was immortalised by Zeca Afonso's "Grândola Vila Morena", which served as the secret signal for the 1974 Carnation Revolution. Today the town is the gateway to the Alentejo Litoral — the pristine Comporta and Carvalhal beaches, vast cork oak forests, the Sado estuary nature reserve and a landscape of unspoilt natural beauty.
