About Ribeira Brava
Ribeira Brava is a fishing town on Madeira's south coast, at the mouth of the stream of the same name, midway between Funchal and Calheta. The 16th-century Church of São Bento preserves a rare Manueline stone pulpit, and the Madeira Ethnographic Museum occupies a former sugar mill. The black pebble beach and the São Bento Fort make the town centre one of the most photogenic on the island. From here the road climbs up the slopes to Serra de Água and to Paul da Serra, the largest plateau in Madeira.
