About Marinha Grande

Marinha Grande is Portugal's glassmaking capital — the Royal Glass Factory, founded in the 18th century and developed by William Stephens, gave rise to an industrial tradition you can explore at the Glass Museum. The municipality is surrounded by the Leiria Pine Forest (Pinhal do Rei), planted by order of King Dinis, and has two of the most popular beaches on the Silver Coast: São Pedro de Moel, with its lighthouse on the cliffs, and Praia da Vieira, at the mouth of the River Lis, known for its arte xávega seine fishing.
