About Peniche

Peniche is a peninsula on Portugal's west coast, a former fishing town and now an international surfing mecca thanks to Supertubos beach, a regular stop on the WSL world tour. Visit the Peniche Fortress (a former political prison during the Estado Novo dictatorship, now a museum), Cape Carvoeiro with its dramatic cliffs and the nearby Berlenga island — a nature reserve reachable by boat in summer. Bobbin lace and woven fishing baskets are part of the town's traditional crafts.
