Caniço is home to the Garajau Marine Natural Reserve — one of the best diving and snorkelling sites in the Atlantic, where the crystal-clear waters teem with moray eels, octopus, rays and colourful reef fish in a protected underwater world. The giant Christ statue at Ponta do Garajau overlooks the reserve, and the rocky coastline of Caniço de Baixo is the island's most celebrated spot for underwater exploration.
