Câmara de Lobos is one of the most picturesque fishing villages in Portugal — the colourful fishing boats in the small harbour were immortalised by Winston Churchill, who painted here during his visits to Madeira. The village sits beneath the towering cliffs of Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, and the surrounding hillsides produce the prized Verdelho and Tinta Negra grapes used in Madeira wine.
