About Luz

Luz is a parish of the Lagos municipality, in the western Algarve, built around Praia da Luz — a former fishing village turned popular seaside resort. The beach has a long stretch of golden sand closed off to the west by the imposing Rocha Negra, a basalt headland. The Nossa Senhora da Luz church, the old fish cannery and the Roman ruins recall the village's past. It is a favourite with families and with hikers on the Costa Vicentina trail towards Burgau.
