About Esposende
Esposende is a coastal municipality in Minho at the mouth of the Cávado river, with long Atlantic beaches such as Ofir, Apúlia and Suave Mar. The Litoral Norte Natural Park protects its dunes, pine forests and salt pans, and the traditional windmills of Apúlia — known as "cavalos-marinhos" — are an iconic landmark. The town centre features the São João Baptista Fort facing the Cávado estuary, and is a starting point for boat trips on the lagoon. Local cuisine is known for fresh fish, grilled sardines and, in season, lamprey rice.
