Marvão is one of Portugal's most spectacular villages — the medieval walled village and castle sit atop a granite crag at 862 metres in the Serra de São Mamede, commanding views over three countries: Portugal, Spain and, on clear days, even further. The entire village is a national monument and the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park surrounding it protects a remarkable diversity of wildlife.
