Borba gleams white and pink with the marble that has been quarried here since Roman times — the fountains, the paving, the church steps and even the cemetery walls are marble. The town sits in the celebrated wine triangle with Estremoz and Vila Viçosa, producing rich Alentejo reds, and the famous Borba fair is one of the region's most vibrant events.
